Blog 6: A Career-Related Website OR an Expert in Your Field

Imagen
Hi everyone, I hope all is well with you. Today, we are going to talk about a career related website OR an expert in your field of study. I can't think of one specific website, so I will talk about a couple I use. One is the New Yorker Magazine, here is where I take short-stories that I use for class. Some of my favorite English-language writers have written in this magazine like Jamaica Kincaid, Junot Díaz, and Edwidge Danticat. The only problem about the website is that after like 6 monthly visits they want to charge you :( Another website I like is The Nation Magazine, it is a progressive American magazine where you can get good news from. I have used articles from this magazine in previous years, but sometimes the articles are really long for classes Lastly, there is Zinn Education Project, Howard Zinn is the author of the book, "People's History of the United States" which is exactly what the name says hahahaha. The website is good because it has different histo

Blog 5: A photograph you like

H i everyone! I hope you are well Today we're going to talk about a photo that you like. I took this photo June 18th of this year and it is my favorite photo of the year hehe. I like it because it is on my balcony and I took advantage of the natural light. It is of me and my daughter (cat) named Idania. She loves to sit on my lap when I sit and she jumped on me when I sat down and I decided to take a picture of us because it was a nice sunny day. A friend of mine says that it reminds her of a meme, I don't know.  I really love this picture because it has no filter and I think that nowadays people are always looking for perfection when they post photos on social media and this photo is of natural perfection lol. I mean, I didn't edit or use filter so I think that makes it special. The photo also reminds me of my close relationship with my beautiful cat, who is really a puma! Now it's your turn to share! Write about your photograph: Who took it What it shows When it was t

Blog 4: A Meal or Food You Really Like

Imagen
Hi everyone :) I hope you are doing well these days! Today we are going to talk about our favorite food :O So I will talk about my not guilty pleasure: Pollo Chang. It is a fast-food Taiwanese restaurant chain here in Chile. Their best food is fried chicken and they have a special spicy powder that they put on it. You can get the fried chicken in a form of a chicken breast, fingers, or mini pieces similar to popcorn chicken. It is to live for. It has a unique taste and it is so delicious and makes me happy when I eat it. I  used to go to this place at least once a week near my  old apartment (Arturo Prat) and they knew me by my name xd. But, now I go less since I live in Ñuñoa and there is no Pollo Chang. However, I got sometimes and they are always happy to see me.  It's great because they give me extra pieces of chicken sometimes <3 They also sell bubble tea which is a cold tea (red or green) with fruit flavor (raspberry, pineapple, lemon, strawberry, passion fruit, and other

Blog 3: My favorite piece of technology

Imagen
Hi everyone! Today we are talking about technology :) I think my favorite piece of technology is my iPod. I use it all the time to listen to music and it's almost like a companion to me. I've had it since December 2021, I had a different one from 2013, but it died, so I had to replace it.  I always use it on the way to work, if I'm walking or taking the bus or the metro. It entertains me during long and tedious trips. I also use it when I go out on long walks throughout the city (I've walked to the Parque Bicentenario from Santiago) At home, I use it to read because it keeps me focused, which I know sounds weird because music usually distracts people. Something very weird is that I try to listen to a full album when I go on long trips or when I read. I love using my iPod and I recommend using it or a MP3 player because by using them you have more space on your cellphone :) Now it's your turn! Write about your favorite piece of technology Say: Why is this your favori

Blog 2: Why did you choose this career?

Imagen
Hi everyone! I hope you are all doing well! Today we are going to talk about why you chose the career that you're studying right now. I remember when I was younger I wanted to be a rabbi XD. I don't know why I did, but then after a while I realized that I would like to teach languages since I loved learning them myself. After the student movement 2011, I was very sure that I wanted to be a teacher. So after studying Latin American Literature, I decided to study Teaching, but I didn't know if I wanted to teach Spanish Language or English as a second language. I talked to many people and decided that it would be best to go for the second option. So I studied in the program, Certification of English Teaching to Adults in the Institute of British-Chilean Culture in Santa Lucía.  I am very happy with the decision I made because I love teaching English and I love to teach about the history and cultures of the English-speaking world.   Now it's your turn: Write about: - your d

Blog 1: My autobiography

i everyone! Welcome to your first English blog! For the first post, the subject is autobiography. Here is my autobiography as an example: I was born in Santiago, Chile. My mother is from New York and my father is from Chile (I only met him once when I was a baby). I did a DNA test to see my ancestry and on my mother's side I am of Lithuanian and Polish Jewish descent and on my father's side I am of Spanish, Mapuche, and German decent. My mom, brother, and I moved to New York when I was 2 years old and lived there for a year. We then moved to Boston, where I lived for many years. I studied in two primary schools, Williams Elementary School and Brown Middle School. I studied in Newton South High School for secondary education. I studied Latin American Literature for 3 years at Eckerd College in Florida and 1 year in the School of Philosophy and Humanities at the University of Chile. After that, I studied at the British-Chilean Institute of Culture to become an English teacher. I
